Step 1: Ensure the Safety and Well Being of All Occupants

The first step is to make sure that the residents or commercial occupants have vacated the area and are deemed safe. If the water damage restoration team considers anyone at harm’s way, first responders will be notified immediately to rectify the situation. A major flood can cause serious damage but it’s more important that occupants are a safe distance away from the affected flooded area.

Step 2: Turn Off Power and Gas to the Property

It is no secret that standing water and electricity do not mix. That’s why the second and most critical step in the water damage repair process is to turn off the utility power sources on the property to avoid the threat of electrocution. Professional restoration teams in Nassau County will guide a property owner to immediately notify the utility companies regarding the flood situation.

Step 3: Extract Water From Flooded Area

Once the power is turned off, the water damage restoration professionals can begin the extraction of standing water. This step is important because the longer standing water sits, the more damage that will occur. The water will be removed, and the area will be disinfected, deodorized and thoroughly dried.

Step 4: Inspect, Evaluate and Document Water Damage

After the water has been carefully and effectively removed, it is time for the water damage repair team to inspect the affected area. If the water damage is extensive and requires more than a quick repair, the occupants may need to relocate until the restoration process is completed. Sometimes, all a property requires is a thorough dry-out. During this step of the restoration process, the team will document all water damage to present a plan and for insurance purposes.

Step 5: Recommend a Dry-Out Plan

Upon inspection, the experts at Water Damage NY will determine the extent of the water damage and create a plan. Whether a major or minor flood, water damage left untreated could develop into mold within a 24 hour timeframe. Water Damage NY will use specialized water damage drying equipment to rectify the situation and remove dangerous moisture from the affected areas. The quicker the areas are dried, the better in the long run for many reasons.

Step 6: Provide Detailed Estimate of the Water Damage Cleanup and Repair

An estimate for water damage restoration includes all steps of the restoration process. The team will estimate costs for the cleanup, repairs and mold remediation, if it’s required. Rest assured, the professionals will look for the potential of mold early on in the process, during a careful inspection of the standing water, to identify the type of flood water. The evaluation will determine whether the water may contain waste, bacteria or other contaminants.

Step 7: Professionals Work Directly with your Insurance Company For Fast Resolution

While your flood was bad news, the better news is that most home or office flood issues may be covered under your homeowner insurance. This coverage should include the cost of hiring a professional water damage restoration company in Garden City, NY to complete a restoration to meet national standards. Professionals like Water Damage NY help to make the claim process go smoothly by directly billing your insurance company and handling necessary paperwork for you. The team’s estimators are field experts in structure reconstruction and use the highest quality of professional equipment and software to present a detailed scope of work to insurance claim adjusters.

Some information about Garden City, NY

Garden City is an incorporated village in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of the village was 22,371.

In 1869, the Irish-born millionaire Alexander Turney Stewart bought a portion of the lightly populated Hempstead Plains. In a letter, Stewart described his intentions for Garden City:

Having been informed that interested parties are circulating statements to the effect that my purpose in desiring to purchase the Hempstead Plains is to devote them to the erection of tenement houses, and public charities of a like character, etc. I consider it proper to state that my only object in seeking to acquire these lands is to devote them to the usual purposes for which such lands, so located, should be applied that is, open them by constructing extensive public roads, laying out the lands in parcels for sale to actual settlers, and erecting at various points attractive buildings and residences, so that a barren waste may speedily be covered by a population desirable in every respect as neighbour taxpayers and as citizens. In doing this I am prepared and would be willing to expend several millions of dollars.

The central attraction of the new community was the Garden City Hotel, designed by the acclaimed firm of McKim, Mead & White. Although the original structure, as well as that which replaced it at the end of the 19th century, were torn down years ago after a fire, a rebuilt hotel still stands on the original grounds, as do many nearby Victorian homes. Access to Garden City was provided by the Central Railroad of Long Island, another Stewart project which he undertook at the same time. The railroad’s Hempstead Branch opened in 1873.
